Great post Stewart.

The major problem facing Alberta (and every jurisdiction) is media is all owned by global finance, which means it serves foreign interests and not domestic or local.

In the case of Sarkonak, she is writing for Chatham Asset Management, the majority owner of PostMedia with about ~2/3 of the equity. The editorial policy of the National Post accordingly opposes sovereignty because it is not in Chatham's overall interest. Prior to Chatham it was owned by Golden Tree Asset Management.

What all of the PostMedia owners have always had in common is they are globalist - as all of Wall Street is. They will always oppose local interests, and promote Wall Street's interests.

For the same reason, the National Post has been promoting immigration that the public opposes for decades, they promoted lockdowns and vaccine mandates rather than providing an opposing perspective, and locally the Calgary Herald supports Jyoti Gondek and blanket upzoning that the citizens of Calgary totally opposed.

PostMedia is a right wing globalist media outlet, and will remain opposed to Alberta sovereignty or independence because it is advancing the financial interests of its owners and promoting the globalist worldview of Wall Street.

Thank you for those insights Mike. Albertans often don't realize just how important Alberta is on a global scale. Did you read this morning's Doomberg? I've restacked it.

Well thought out and well written. I especially like two things you do. One is to bring Quebec into the frame and highlight the hypocrisy of Ottawa. They appease one and ridicule the other. The second is a good writing technique in general: what if the shoe were on the other foot? Taking her own words and using them against her by swapping out the characters is very enlightening.

Excellent counter arguments to those in the National Post article. The longer eastern Canada votes for policies and legislation that is opposed to Alberta's interests, then the more likely an independent Alberta becomes a reality. If they vote in Carney and the Liberals yet again next week, then I think an Alberta sovereignty referendum is inevitable.

Interesting to note that Quebec separatism is on the rise again. Is that also a pipe dream?
