I have a lot of sympathy for the non-political. So much of modern politics is designed to cause division. So much is rage-bait and distraction which keeps us from productive conversations. Sadly, I've had very few good conversations accross the asile. Only enough to count on one hand. It does seem like a waste of time. But we are political animals I'd go so far as to say that swearing off politics altogether is to not live a full life.

Thanks Blotto. I have more success focusing on clarity rather than agreement (à la Dennis Prager) when discussing issues "across the aisle" (as you so aptly put it). Given your familiarity with the Socratic Method, I doubt that any advice I could give you in this regard would be helpful.

Well, just because I understand the Socratic method doesn't mean I can apply it well. I do belive it is an excellent method but it requires the good will of all parties.

It's not enough to vote once every four years. Getting involved at the constituency level allows you to have input on who you can vote for. Otherwise, you'll find there's not a lot of difference between the candidates served up by the different political parties.
